I had a great stay at this hostel with my friends. The location was perfect, with easy access to public transportation and plenty of food and shop options nearby. The private room in the annex building was wonderful, with a gorgeous view of the city. The shared kitchen and bathroom were well-maintained and organized. The staff were friendly and helpful, and there were daily activities to enjoy.
The staircase and walkways in the hostel were narrow and made it difficult to navigate with luggage.

I had an amazing weekend stay at the Green Tortoise. Jo, the staff member, was fantastic and made my experience even more enjoyable with her friendly and energetic demeanor. The hospitality was excellent, especially for a first-time traveler like myself. The atmosphere in the hostel was particularly friendly, and the interior had a cozy and eccentric charm. The breakfast, prepared by Egidio, was delicious and the kitchen staff did a great job. I would definitely come back because of the amazing service from Jo and the overall friendly environment.
Totally recommend this hotel.

The price was great for what was provided, and the common area was a cool place to hang out. The wifi worked well, and the warm showers were a nice touch. The staff was friendly and accommodating. The location was convenient, not far from Chinatown and easily accessible by public transit. The hostel had a good amount of information available for getting around the city.
To the hostel. Some of the online pictures didn't accurately reflect the actual appearance of the place.

The beds were comfortable and there was plenty of space in the locker under the bed. The common area was huge and perfect for working or socializing with other travelers. The location was ideal, with many sights, restaurants, and bars within walking distance. The breakfast was incredible, with a variety of options including eggs, coffee, fruit, and bagels. the hostel provided a great experience and we highly recommend it.

The location of the hostel is unbeatable. It is situated on the border of vibrant Chinatown and lively Little Italy, offering guests easy access to these cultural neighborhoods. Additionally, it is within a short walking distance to popular attractions such as Pier 7 and the Financial District. The hostel provides clean and well-maintained restrooms on each floor, ensuring convenience for guests.
The carpets in the room were slightly dirty, indicating a need for better maintenance.

The manager and front desk staff went above and beyond to ensure my stay was enjoyable, and the free luggage storage was a huge help. For the value we paid, our stay at Green Tortoise was excellent. The room was fantastic - comfortable beds, clean toilets, and even a sink in the room. The location was perfect, with plenty of food and shopping options nearby. The staff treated us incredibly well, with friendly and helpful service. We felt like part of the Green Tortoise family.
The food for breakfast could be improved by offering free bath towels, as advertised on the bedroom door, instead of charging $1 for them.

The community vibe in the hostel was incredibly natural, especially in the common room and kitchen. As vegetarians and vegans, we loved the abundance of free food and the option to enjoy a free dinner on Fridays. The ambiance and design of the hostel created a cozy and friendly atmosphere that made us feel right at home. Additionally, the architecture and decoration of the rooms were beautifully done. The staff was outstanding, providing helpful assistance and hospitality. They even helped us make the most of our time in the city by providing a map with a suggested route and advice on transportation. The hostel was also reasonably clean, and the wifi was fast and free, which was a pleasant surprise.
Felt snug, but the staff always went above and beyond to make our stay trouble-free.

The location was fantastic, very central and easy to get around. The staff were welcoming and friendly, they even offered me a free breakfast when I arrived early in the morning. The lunch room had an impressive view from a huge window, and the overall style of the hostel was cozy and stylish. I also really enjoyed the free dinners and different activities offered every day.
The rooms were not very soundproof, so I could easily hear noise from the neighbors and outside. There was also a constant smell of cannabis and cigarettes in the corridor, which was unpleasant.
Tourists from India often stay at these properties. Ideas for your future trips.
